The number of deaths at West London Grenfell Tower has risen to 12 while 68 people have suffered several degrees or burns and injuries. Fire fighters battled the huge inferno which engulfed the building. The fire was said to have started shortly after midnight.
London Fire Commissioner Dany Cotton has confirmed the number of fatalities to be 12. but could not say if the numbers will increase due to the complexity of the building. Cotton also said the cause of the fire was not yet known and it was too early to speculate on the building, although it was structurally safe enough for her crews to be working inside.
She urged all residents to make sure they had reported themselves to police so that the authorities know they are safe.
By mid-morning, the building looked to be just smoking ruins increased in burning tempo before the fire fighters gained control over it.
