African time syndrome

… campaigns for Culture of Time, to erase the contemptous African Time Syndrome presently being associated with Nigerians.

The Director General, National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) Otunba Segun Runsewe has decried the ‘African time syndrome’ and the attitude of late coming among Nigerians which he noted portrays Nigerians as unserious people.

The DG stated this in Lagos Saturday while brainstorming with Culture Stakeholders on how to use the instrument of culture in addressing the ills and misnomers currently ravaging the Nigerian society.

He blamed proliferation of borrowed cultures for the seeming total departure from Nigerian cultural values.

“We are the custodian of culture. We must use culture to change these issues. If we dont get culture right , we cant get it right in selling tourism” Runsewe said.

He urged Nigerians to be proud of who they are, rather than striving to be someone else.

Runsewe cited the current agitations and tribal intolerance being exhibited in some quarters as unhealthy for national development.

” …We are giving eachother quit notices. This shouldn’t be, except we want to go fifty years backwards”

The DG NCAC appealed to all Nigerians to join the “bring back our culture campaign” being launched by NCAC as a way of reviving the right values currently being eroded in order to socially and economically move the country forward.
